WHAT: Everyone is invited to join the Aquarium of the Pacific for its virtual celebration of Juneteenth with Baba the Storyteller. You can learn more about the history, meaning, and significance of this holiday to the African American community and beyond and its annual traditions through storytelling, music, and song.
Baba the Storyteller has been a professional cultural educator and consultant for more than twenty-five years and has received numerous awards for his work as a folklorist, traditional harpist, storyteller, community activist, and volunteer. He was honored with the Heritage Award during the Aquarium’s fifteenth annual African-American Festival in 2017.
He has been a participant in this Aquarium festival for all nineteen years, presenting traditional West African music, singing, and storytelling. He was the master of ceremonies for the Aquarium’s nineteenth annual African-American Festival in 2021 (a virtual event) and the Aquarium’s first virtual Kwanzaa event in December 2020.
