Two weeks ago, I turned 40 years old and celebrated my birthday with family and friends. ο»ΏIt was a chance to look back and give thanks for the blessings in my life and to reflect on the things I want to improve upon for the next decade. One of the things I realized was that I need to lead a healthier lifestyle when it comes to diet and exercise. In the past 10 years, I’ve had 3 kids who are my joy and love in life. However, as every mother knows, having 3 kids also has changed my body in ways that were unexpected and I am at the heaviest weight I have been while not being pregnant. Many mothers struggle with how they feel about themselves, and I am no exception. With the weight gain comes the thoughts of not being happy with the way I look when I see pictures of myself and clothes not fitting the way I would like.

One of the major excuses I have of not losing weight is time. I am actively involved in my church, a moms' group, the kids’ school, the PTA, and being a Macaroni Kid publisher. Who has the time to be disciplined in cooking easy, healthy, meals for each meal of the day?  We are a family that feels like we're always on the go.  When you have multiple kids and there is homework due, sports practices and games to participate in, and lessons to attend, there are days when it’s easier to drive through the fast-food line for a meal instead of eating at home.

Another excuse I’ve had is that we love food! My husband and I are foodies and we enjoy traveling and researching for the latest and tastiest food places in the area. When trying new food places, I tend to overeat as I enjoy snacking and wanting multiple food items and treats. I also realized I can be an emotional eater. When I want to reward myself or make myself feel better, I frequently turn to having a boba milk tea. Yes, I admit I'm a boba addict who loves drinking a large cup for any and every occasion- with my hubby, friends, movie nights, as a reward or when I’ve had a bad day. Being in Southern California, the boba tea locations are prevalent and it's tempting. My once a week treat on the weekend had changed to a couple of times during the week and became a habit too hard to give up. As boba milk tea is made up of tapioca starch and sugar, I know that my love for boba has also contributed to my weight gain over the years.

As a part of my New Year’s resolution, I decided to get healthy, make new lifestyle changes, and lose the weight that I’ve put on over the years. Around the same time, I was offered the opportunity to take part in an 8 week Jenny Craig My Rapid Results weight loss program that would be tailored to my own body to achieve the results I desired. The My Rapid Results program is a scientifically researched program with a DNA weight loss kit that creates a custom weight loss meal plan based on my genetic profile. With weekly one-on-one personal support from a Jenny Craig consultant, I thought this is the opportunity to stop with the excuses and to start taking charge of my weight and my health. The excuse of being too busy to prepare a healthy meal is taken out of the equation as every meal, snack, and dessert is provided for by Jenny Craig! Not only that, it’s based on a proven program, backed by scientific research with a meal customized for me.

My kids are my motivation to be a mom who can confidently model healthier eating and lifestyle habits to them. My goal is to not only lose the baby weight I've been holding on to, but discover more about who I am and change my life for the better. I have to admit that sharing my vulnerability with everyone has been uncomfortable and hard to do but I hope you join me on this journey as I share my weekly successes and struggles with all of you. I will be sharing about the food I’m eating, the details of the program, the results of my DNA weight loss kit, my personal consultations, and any changes I may see in my health and weight. * Avg. weight loss 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program. You can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and in the newsletter weekly as I begin. If you’re like me and want to learn how to eat healthy, lose weight and learn how to keep it off, consider checking out the Jenny Craig program yourself and follow along this journey with me. We can’t make any changes in our life without support, and I’m glad to have it from my family, my friends, my Jenny Craig consultant, and all of you. As I venture into this next decade of my life, I’m excited to take control of my first 2 months of my 40s to get to a healthier me in changing my lifestyle and learning better habits for the future.
