All American 4th of July Aboard the Queen Mary

July 4, 2017 at Queen Mary

This year we had the opportunity to spend our 4th of July on the historic Queen Mary!  Queen Mary is a beautiful ship with lots of things to look and explore.  I have been in the Queen Mary several times, but this time I seem to find different areas of the ship that I never explored.

With your ticket, you are able to go to the 4-D Theater, the Diana – Legacy of a Princess – A Royal Exhibition, and the new Titanic in Photographs!  Our first stop was at the Engine Room where the Titanic in Photographs was displayed.  Titanic is one of my favorite movies!  It has many of the artifacts and pictures from the ship.  You are able see examples of the lavish interior and pictures of the famous grand staircase.  You can see the actual furniture for the accommodations for the 1st , 2nd, 3rd class and crew rooms and even touch an actual lifeboat that is over 100 years old.  Seeing this on the Queen Mary was even more surreal.

We then went to the 4-D Theater.  We watched both of the movies they were showing: BBC Planet Earth – Shallow Seas and SpongeBob SquarePants – The Great Jelly Rescue.  My husband and I really enjoyed Planet Earth, but my kids enjoyed SpongeBob.  Each show is approximately 10-15 minutes and it normally cost $8 (Adult) / $6 (Child) per show.

We went to the Diana A Royal Exhibition.  This was an exhibition filled with history that showcases a priceless collection of evening gowns, dresses, personal accessories, photographs and memorabilia associated with Princess Diana and the Royal family.  It takes you on a trip down memory lane that chronicles the life and death of Princess Diana, the Princess of Whales.

There were many other activities on the ship, like magic shows from mind-blowing magicians.  We saw Dave Cox and Jon Armstrong perform their amazing tricks up close and personal.

There are many other shows and entertainment in different areas of the ship.  There were Hula Hoop Contest, Watermelon Eating Contest, Limbo Contest, but we did not have a chance to attend.  We instead enjoyed the performance of live band and singers.

Shows and Entertainments

The highlight of the day was definitely the fireworks, which was marvelous.  You can pay a little more to be VIP area at the rear of the boat, which promised the best and close view to the fireworks.  We decided to stay on the SeaWalk area outside of the boat where they had the Pointer Sisters perform right before the firework started.  The kids were enjoying the popcorns and eating their hamburgers, turkey legs while watching the fireworks.  I can say that everywhere on the ship or even down on the ground you will have an amazing view as the fireworks felt that the fireworks were close to you.  Overall the experience was good.
